Initial planning for the prosthesis

Once you have decided to go ahead with getting an implant retained prosthesis you will meet with the medical team who will treat you. Together with the team you will plan the procedure to ensure best end results. At this time an exact copy, a so called impression, is made. This presurgery impression is used to determine the best locations for implants in relation to your facial structure and your future prosthesis.

In addition, your doctor may be able to put you in contact with patients who have undergone similar treatment or a relevant patient group. Meeting people who can share their experiences with you may provide you with that extra reassurance and confidence about the process and its outcomes.

Prior to surgery you will also discuss with your doctor your choice of anaesthetic as it may be possible to use a local anaesthetic or modified form of general anaesthetic.
