Frequently Asked Questions

What are the advantages with Vistafix™?

Security - each element of the system from the clips or magnets on the back of the prosthesis to the implants in the bone has been designed to give a safe and reliable means of retention.

Aesthetics - the system also allows the prosthetist to make a very natural looking prosthesis with very thin edges which blend and move with the surrounding facial tissue.

Handling - an acrylic plate forms a solid base for the prosthesis making it easy to handle.

How long will the prosthesis last?

The average lifetime of a prosthesis is about 18 months but if you take good care of your prosthesis, it can last two years or longer.

When can I wear the prosthesis?

The prosthesis can be worn for all normal activities including swimming and sports. It may be advisable to remove it and wear some protection over the bar if you take part in contact sports. Studies have shown that the majority of people wear their prosthesis for more than 10 hours per day. It should, however, be removed at night.

Am I likely to have any problems after the prosthesis is fitted?

Hygiene is very important when looking after the implants and the prosthesis. The implant has a high success rate, however on rare occasions it is possible that an abutment may come loose and cause some irritation in this area. If this happens you should visit your outpatient clinic to have the abutment checked and tightened.
